"We have installed over 2500 domestic wells in Madera County alone since 1976."

"We have over 31 years of experience in specialized drilling and environmental testing."

Bradley and Sons operates in two basic areas Domestic Wells and Commercial and Environmental Drilling and Testing.

Based in Central California, Bradley and Sons has job-sites ranging north from Glenn County to Ventura County south.

We have five Mud and Air Rotary Drilling Rigs and all the associated support equipment. Rotary Mud drilling is the most efficient, versatile and dependable method of drilling. Although some have misconceptions concerning the possible damage of the associated formation. When done with experience and care, rotary mud drilling actually protects the formation by preventing the intrusion of fluid into the formation.

Our Services Include:

Test holes drilled to depth of 1500 plus feet with the associated environmental logs.

Monitoring wells of 2” to 8” to depth of 1500 plus feet.
Pump and well capacity tests for new purchases, and project development

    Well development using air development

    Wire line coring 94mm
This versatile system allows a driller to take a core, punch sample or drill ahead without pulling the drill string. Innertubes can be interchanged quickly and easily by means of a wireline transport.Piezometer & monitoring wells, single or nested completions

    De-watering wells

    Environmental pump installations

    Water sample collection

    Well rehabilitation

    Hydropunch water samples
Pushed or driven to the desired sample depth, the Hydropunch utilizes an air-tight and water-tight sealed intake screen and sample chamber which is isolated from the surrounding environment as the tool is advanced. The tight seals enable the Hydropunch to collect a very discrete sample from a specific depth by sealing off ground water from above and below the zone to be sampled.

Water - It is so important to our lives and our lifestyle. Drinking, eating, cleaning, washing, swimming - lawns, trees, our pets - they all need pure clean water. Yet so many people take water for granted. Until you awake one morning and have a dry shower, a brown lawn and an angry family.

Bradley and Sons have been drilling domestic wells in the Central Valley of California for 30 plus years. Thousands of successful projects and Thousands of happy customers is our resume. Following, is a outline of the steps Bradley and Sons takes to build a successful well and water project for your domestic use.

Step One: Permits
Most domestic and agricultural wells in California need a permit. Bradley and Sons will file the needed permits on your behalf.

Step Two: System Design and Site Selection
Bradley and Sons will work with you to determine your domestic needs, based on your projected use. Then design the system, select the appropriate components, prepare a bid and select an appropriate well site on your property.

Step Three: Drilling
Bradley and Sons uses Rotary Mud drilling which is the most sophisticated and speedy methods to drill and develop your well. The hole is drilled by a rotating bit, where the bit is rotated by the drill rig and the cuttings are removed by continuous circulation of a drilling fluid. Once the water-table is reached, the hole is typically extended 100 feet into the water table.

Step Four: Casing and Screen
Once the hole is drilled, the steel casement or PVC “well-pipe” is installed into the hole. The casing serves to protect the well from contamination and to prevent the hole from caving in. A well screen is fitted to the bottom of the casing and is a filtering device which allows water to pass but stops sediment.  Only an experienced driller with knowledge of local water conditions can determine proper placement of well perforations.

Step Five: Well Development
The purpose of well development is to improve the flow of water through the earth surrounding the borehole. Every type of drilling operation is a violent action which alters the hydraulic characteristics of the materials near the borehole. These alterations will sometimes result in reduction of water flow into the well. Sands and gravels will be crushed and compacted and uncompacted materials can filter down, plugging-up the porous formations, and clays particles will be mixed with water or drilling fluids to form an impervious barrier. The well will yield much more water when the natural hydraulic properties are restored. In order to maximize water flow, development seeks to remove sand, clay, and clogging sediment.

Step Six: Pumps and Tanks
In most situations in the Central Valley, domestic wells use submersible pumps. These pumps are very efficient and work in wells that are at great depths. Bradley and Sons will help you select a pump size that is appropriate for your needs. The tank that you see at so many wells is the pressurized storage tank. The storage tanks supply water in-between pump cycles. A larger tank means fewer pump starts and cycles, which increases the life of your motor, starters, switches, and relays.

Final Considerations
Domestic wells need very little maintenance, but some common sense suggestions go a long way to making your well trouble free.

Protect your well from contamination. Do not dump or rinse containers of pesticides, paints, fertilizer or other chemicals near your well or any water source. These chemicals should be disposed of properly.

Protect your electrical supply from rodents. Maintain a clean well site, free of debris and weeds that may attract mice and other rodents which could ruin your wiring. Also, take care to not severe your electrical supply with any trenching or other digging equipment.
